Braves place LHP Tyler Matzek (elbow) on 15-day injured list
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Braves placed left-handed reliever Tyler Matzek, who has struggled since his return from Tommy John surgery, on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday because of inflammation in his throwing elbow.

The move is retroactive to Sunday. In a corresponding move, the Braves recalled left-hander Ray Kerr from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Matzek, 33, missed the entire 2023 season following Tommy John surgery in late 2022. He is 0-0 with a 9.90 ERA, three walks and 10 strikeouts in 10 innings over 11 games.

His most recent outing was Saturday when he allowed three runs, two hits including a home run and one walk in two-thirds of an inning in the Braves' 11-2 loss to the host Los Angeles Dodgers.

Matzek is 16-21 in his career with a 3.72 ERA, one save, 142 walks and 272 strikeouts in 285 1/3 innings over 168 games (24 starts) with the Colorado Rockies (2014-15) and Braves (2020-23, 2024).

Kerr, 29, was obtained in a December 2023 trade from the San Diego Padres. At Gwinnett, he is 1-0 with three saves, a 4.50 ERA, five walks and 22 strikeouts in 14 innings over nine games (one start).

He pitched parts of 2022 and 2023 with the Padres and is a career 1-1 with a 5.06 ERA, 13 walks and 38 strikeouts in 32 innings over 29 relief appearances.
